Outside the Office

Sylvia resides in the D.C. area, tapping into the rich East Coast history, the variety of museums, seasonality of all things, and a train ride to other cities makes this place home. Finding inspiration in her surroundings allows her to provide fresh perspectives to her clients when she is planning their tailormade experiences. And to blow off steam, you can find her showcasing her slightly competitive side on Fortnite or creating a new makeup look for TikTok.  We love how well-rounded she is.

Let the Q&A Portion Begin!

Sylvia, please share the story of how you got to where you are in the industry.

I've been "event planning" since I was the committee chairperson for my high school homecoming and international night for three years in a row.

I started as an art major in college at James Madison University, but studio art classes were long and I didn’t feel challenged, so I shifted to sports management. Through my internships for that program - my interest geared towards event & marketing. My resume ended up being very events-focused, and so I thought it was the path I was meant for — the rest, as they say, is history!

I even went back to school in 2018 to receive my Masters in Tourism Administration, Meeting & Event Management at The George Washington University School of Business.

What is your favorite part of the job?

My favorite part of the job is being onsite during event execution and seeing the work I've put in come to life.

What is your career highlight?

Working with the US Olympic & Paralympic Committe on 2018’s Winter Olympics in South Korea.

To have been part of a global sporting event that was held in my parent's home country was such an honor and a career-high.

Do you have any pet peeves?

Yes, so many – please don’t make me list them. ;)

Do you have any pets?

Yes! My furbaby, Kylo! Here’s one of my favorite photos of him pondering life.

What is a big goal for you?

To support my parents - I would like for them to not have to work anymore and live a comfortable life, and have time to pursue their dreams.

They did this for me, so I think returning that gift would be a dream.

What are three things you do for fun?

Make TikToks, play Fortnite, and buy stuff that I don't need!

What book do you gift most often and why?

I’m not a big reader - but I do love gifting money and gift cards :) It NEVER disappoints!

What was your first job?

I actually had two first jobs: I was a coach for a preschool gymnastics program in the evenings and a cheer summer camp counselor during the day in the summers.

If you could plan anything or if you had a bucket list event, what would it be?

The Met Gala, Rihanna’s Fenty Show (really any fashion show), Complexcon, any of the Kardashian’s events (really any of Mindy Weiss’ clients), popup events related to things I love such as Virgil Abloh’s Dream: The LV x Nike AF1 Exhibition, and so much more.
